2019-2020 PA Day Camps

 

Freehand offers full and half day camps every PA Day during the school year. Each camp has a fun and enriching theme with different projects in the morning and afternoon.



October 11, 2019 - Creature Feature

Bats!
Morning Camp (9:30am to 12:00pm)

Have a spooky good time this morning making a layered acrylic painting of bats flying in the night sky. Campers will learn about colour mixing and positive/negative space as they create and paint using their own stencils.

Jeepers Peepers Shadowbox
Afternoon Camp (1:00pm to 3:30pm)

Using polymer clay and other sculpture materials we will create a nighttime forest shadowbox. We’ll imagine who or what is out and about at night with eyes that glow!


November 15, 2019 - Foodie Fun

Gumball Machines
Morning Camp (9:30am to 12:00pm)

This morning we’ll be inspired by artist Wayne Thiebaud’s famous food paintings. Campers will learn about colour theory and 3-dimensional drawing techniques as we create a colourful oil pastel drawing of a gumball machine.

Tasty Besties
Afternoon Camp (1:00pm to 3:30pm)

Some foods are better together! Who is your favourite food pair? Milk & cookies, burgers & fries, salt & pepper, bread & butter? This morning we’ll learn drawing and illustration techniques to create a poster of our favourite food BFFs.


December 6, 2019 - Winter Wonderland

Skating Penguin Scene Morning Camp (9:30am to 12:00pm)

This morning we’ll create a magical winter scene with watercolour, inks and a movable skating winter animal!

Snowy 3D Paper Sculpture
Afternoon Camp (1:00pm to 3:30pm)

Celebrate the beauty of winter with us as we create this cozy diorama! Using painted paper collage and a special folding technique, campers will sculpt their own little winter wonderland.


January 17, 2020 - Tropical Escape

3D Paper Waterlilies
Morning Camp (9:30am to 12:00pm)

Take a creative escape with us this morning as we create a 3-dimensional water lily on a lily pad. Using our own acrylic painted paper we will draw, cut and assemble these beautiful, sculptural flowers.

Afternoon Camp (1:00pm to 3:30pm)

We’re heading to the beach this morning! Using drawing techniques and watercolour paints we’ll create our ultimate castle made of sand…but this one won’t wash away with the tide!


February 14, 2020 - Loving Life

Send a special message with this sweet painted self-portrait. We’ll use watercolour, marker and cut paper collage to create this mixed media masterpiece!

Afternoon Camp (1:00pm to 3:30pm)

Create a colourful valentine painting for someone special this afternoon. We’ll learn about repeating patterns and stencil creation as we make these striking paper sculptures.


June 5, 2020 - Looking for Adventure

Dream Vacation Selfies
Morning Camp (9:30am to 12:00pm)

Imagine yourself on the trip of a lifetime as we paint and collage a self-portrait this morning! We’ll learn drawing, painting and collage techniques as we create a vacation ‘selfie’ with a cool pair of shades.

Ship in a Bottle
Afternoon Camp (1:00pm to 3:30pm)

Sail away with us this afternoon as we make a fantasy ship in a bottle painting! Using acrylic on acetate, a transparent plastic so the final project can be placed in a window, campers will design, draw and paint their ultimate ship worthy of the high seas!


Registration Information

Students are divided into groups by grade -  JK&SK;  Gr. 1-3;  Gr. 4-6.

Half Day Fee:  (AM 9:30-12:00 or PM 1:00-3:30)  $50.00 + HST
Full Day Fee:  (9:30-3:30) $90 + HST, (save $10!)
12:00-1:00: Lunch supervision is included for  full-day participants. Please send your child with a nut-free lunch.
Early drop-off from 8:30-9:30, additional $10.00 + HST. 
Late pick-up from 3:30-5:30 additional $15.00 + HST. 

Please send your child with a nut-free lunch and 2 nut-free free snacks for our morning and afternoon breaks. Participants should dress for mess.
