Spring 2019 Adult Programs
We have classes for adults who have always wanted to learn to draw or paint and those who enjoy being creative and want to try something new. Programs start the week of April 1, 2019. Classes are 10 weeks unless otherwise indicated and run until the week of June 3. Materials are not included in course fees unless otherwise stated. Monday classes are not held on Easter, April 22 or Victoria Day, May 20.
Students will learn to draw what they see in correct proportions and then bring their drawing to life through the use of shading and perspective. A variety of drawing materials will be used including graphite, charcoal, conte, pastel and pen and ink.
Beginner: Mondays, 1:00-3:00, April 1- June 3. 8 classes*
Intermediate: Mondays, 1:00-3:00, April 1-May 13. 6 classes**

Students will continue to develop techniques for painting realistically with a focus on colour theory and composition. Subject matter will begin with still life and then students will work from photographs. Some previous painting experience is recommended but not mandatory.

Tuesdays, 1:00-3:00, April 2 - June 4. $340. HST extra. Materials not included.
In this course students will explore colour theory, texture, brushwork and composition as they create abstract works in oil. Through step-by-step instruction students will create satisfying, colourful works of art on canvas.
Thursdays 1:00-3:00 pm, April 4 - June 6. $340. HST extra. Materials not included.
After learning the basics of handling clay, participants will choose to focus on making functional ceramics or sculptural work. You will have the opportunity to learn the potters wheel for creating bowls, vases and bottles or develop your hand at making figurative and artistic work in clay. Classes are small enough for participants to get individualized instruction.
Pieces will be fired in our kiln and then various finishing methods will be explored. Taught by Brad Weatherburn.

Students will be introduced to watercolour painting by exploring a variety of techniques. Lessons will focus on colour theory, brushwork and composition. Materials List. Taught by Erin Vernon.

Have fun and de-stress through ‘experiential learning’ exploring colour and design through a new lens with contemporary artist and mentor Catherine Shea.
Using unexpected tools and learning new techniques, students create three different abstract pieces from an array of themes – pointillism, ‘hard-edge’ geometrics, texturing and layering. Students will also learn new methods of colour-mixing a colour-contrasting using Catherine’s signature ‘intuitive colour prediction’ methodology.
No previous experience is necessary to successfully create colourful works of art.

Thursday evenings from 7:00 - 9:00. $10 per week, basic materials provided. We will provide the model, who varies from week to week, an easel, charcoal, and newsprint.
