During the week of July 15-19 we took our inspiration from the other 2/3 of our planet and dove in to some amazing art.
One of the highlights of the week was having the students create 3-dimensional boat collages. This was a multi-step process that took the kids about three sessions to complete. We started by creating a collaborative mural with pastel, paint and tissue paper.
The backgrounds for the pieces were made with old maps:
Then the boats were created by cutting up the mural and using the warm areas to build the boat and the cool parts to make the water. Here are some of the fabulous final products:
Our 4&5 year-old students spent the week making sea creature sculptures, fish paintings, sea monster collages and sea turtle prints. Here are some beautiful examples:
