Adult Art Nights
Adult art nights provide a relaxing and supportive artistic environment to try something new, unwind with friends, and create some art! All levels are welcome and no experience is necessary. An instructor will take you step-by-step through the project from start to finish as you explore painting, printmaking and mixed media techniques. Whether you are serious about art or just want to play, join us for a night of creativity!

Leaf Masking Print
October 19 (Friday), 7:30- 9:30
In this festive fall workshop, learn the art of composition and masking techniques to create a minimalist leaf print.
Step 1 - Choose a selection of leaves and plants, some real and some cut from paper, as well as your colours of ink.
Step 2 - Decide on a arrangement.
Step 3 - Laying down one layer at a time, spritz the ink on top to create a masked shape of the leaf.
November 23 (Friday), 7:30- 9:30
Collagraphy, an additive printmaking process that emerged in the 1950s, is the perfect technique to create unique, colourful greeting cards fit for any occasion!
Step 1 - Create your design using pre-cut paper shapes, or cut your own.
Step 2 - Glue everything down to a wooden board and seal it with white acrylic paint to create a layered, textured design.
Step 3 - Roll coloured ink onto your design and print cards using traditional printmaking techniques.
Holiday Felt Ball Ornaments
December 7 (Friday), 7:30- 9:30
A felt ornament is perfect for your holiday decorations or to give as a gift! In this workshop, students will design an ornament using felting techniques.
Step 1 - Choose your design and begin cutting out felt shapes to decorate your ball.
Step 2 - Optional: Sew on sequins or add some sparkle with crystal metallic fiber.
Step 3 - Using a felting needle, attach the shapes to the ball by poking the felting needle through the shape and into the wool ball.
Paint your Pet
January 25 (Friday), 7:30- 9:30
Immortalize your pet in an artwork! Everyone will create a realistic painting of their beloved pet using our fool-proof technique.
Step 1 - Trace a picture of your pet onto the canvas using carbon paper. (This process will create a paint-by-number style drawing for you to work from.)
Step 2 - Select and mix your colours, with assistance if needed.
Step 3 - Paint your pet!
Watercolour Serengeti Silhouette
February 22 (Friday), 7:30- 9:30
Transport yourself to the plains of the Serengeti with this watercolour painting, complete with silhouettes of the zebras, gazelles and buffalos that are part of the largest land mammal migration in the world!
Step 1 - Paint a gradient sunset with watercolour paint.
Step 2 - While it is drying, select your pre-cut animal silhouettes or design your own.
Step 3 - Traces the silhouettes onto the sunset and then fill them in with black paint.
Abstract Poured Painting
April 5 (Friday), 7:30- 9:30
Poured paintings are just as fun to make as they are beautiful to look at! This workshop will focus on colour mixing and everyone will go home with something they're proud of.
Step 1 - Choose your palette by learning about complimentary and analogous colours.
Step 2 - Mix your colours and add a conditioner to let the paint flow smoothly.
Step 3 - Pour your paint over a canvas.
May 31 (Friday), 7:30- 9:30
Encaustic is the ancient art form of painting with coloured beeswax. The technique allows you to create a strong sense of atmosphere and depth in a work of art.
Step 1 - Paint a colourful abstract background using wax.
Step 2 - Select an image from our pre-printed collection of animals, places and things (or bring your own black-and-white toner-printed image).
Step 3 - Transfer image onto wax background with a rubbing technique & seal to preserve!
